Frequently Asked Questions

That depends on several factors, including the age and the frequency and type of use of your elevators. Contact your local branch of Southern Elevator and ask for a free inspection of your vertically mobile systems. We have various programs based on your needs. At Southern Elevator we never recommend more frequent servicing than necessary. However, we highly recommend preventive maintenance as the best strategy to keep your elevators working properly for many more years to come.

A well-maintained elevator should last anywhere between 15 and 20 years before requiring an overhaul (called Modernization).  Southern Elevator Company is an expert in the modernization process. However, our preventive maintenance program is designed to delay modernization needs for as long as possible—and that can save your company big bucks!

This is a legally mandated program outlined in Section 8 of the ASME A17.1 code. It stipulates some basic general requirements for elevator maintenance and record keeping. An MCP diary is required to be kept onsite and accessible to elevator personnel. It should include all information necessary to maintain, service, and repair your elevator equipment.

The short answer is ALL. Southern Elevator’s staff is fully qualified to maintain all types and brands, including the large internationals and all non-proprietary elevator systems and equipment including commercial traction, MRL, hydraulic, dumbwaiters, material lifts, and vertical platform lifts.

Southern Elevator’s technical field staff is fully certified by the NATIONAL ELEVATOR INDUSTRY EDUCATION PROGRAM (NEIEP). This level of certified expertise means that Southern Elevator Company provides the highest level of customer service and problem-solving abilities.

Work with Southern Elevator to create the right level of program for your building(s). We will propose a variety of solutions based on the age, usage, and traffic of each of your elevators.

Yes. In fact, over time, many of our long-term clients began by utilizing our services on a one-off basis and really liking the quality of service.

That would be the smartest thing you can do. As mentioned, we will help you choose the right level of service for your needs.

We absolutely can. We have products that are both cost-effective and extremely attractive for giving your elevators a facelift. This is highly recommended, as it substantially increases the cosmetic impression of not only your elevator(s) but the entire building.

We suggest having a conversation with us when your elevator is 15 years old. At 18 years, we will recommend that you begin budgeting for a modernization project, as it is an expensive, if necessary, process.

Yes, several times a year. From time to time our existing clients ask us to install a new elevator for them and we have done that successfully and gladly. If you are not a current client, we would be glad to consider doing an installation for you, if it fits our criteria of not having too many stops. We ideally install new elevators of 2 to 5 stops. Feel free to contact us below.
